For this shoot I had to compromise by working at home due to the COVID-19 outbreak. My inspiration being Artistic makeup photography I wanted to explore more of Alex Box’s makeup concepts and for that I wanted to reflect on Period hair that I did during Applied Postiche classes. For this I took the concept of Elizabeth the 1st and did an Elizabethan hairstyle but within a contemporary concept. Including sprayed colours for textures in the hair as well as intentional frizz I wanted their to be as much texture possible in the photograph.
Alex Box amazes me with how gestural her work is as a makeup artist, I wanted to reflect on my fine art academic background for this shoot by including an airbrush gun effect. Using an airbrush gave me the artistic freedom to have a painterly feel to my makeup design including a complimentary colour pallet. The studio set up was different than my previous home shoots as I used one soft box and a reflector facing one the other side for a dramatic effect.

I really enjoyed doing this shoot especially as I got to show my applied Postiche and airbrushing skills for my portfolio. If I was to do this again I would do it on two models for a more complex composition. The textures where created by crosshatching with the airbrush gun including talc for powder texture on the body and wig and also pearls painted over in white.
This shoot was challenging because of the textural dimension to the shoot. The simplistic lighting worked well in my favour especially as it captures the makeup and textures very clearly. The overall look took me 2 hours including shooting time with the help of my father to take some shots on my Canon Camera.
